No upward mobility, with low wages and poor management.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsNice people work at Eurofins. Most of the people there are doing their job everyday and working hard to support their families.

ConsVery poor management. Low pay. No promotions. Overwork and underpay employees. Do not deal with personnel issues, so problems increase over time. Very rarely does Management discipline employees when rules are broken, even when it's an HR issues. Managers mistreat or talk down to employees regularly because they were never trained to be managers. Most of the mangers are a good scientists, but very poor at managing people. Some employees often break the rules and are not fired, which upsets the other employees. Employees are expected to work long hours and most departments are understaffed.

Advice to Senior ManagementWork-life balance needs great improvement. Pay people a more realistic salary. Resolve personnel issues instead of ignoring them to avoid additional problems in the future so you can do a better job of retaining your more highly motivated workers. Show people they are valued with promotions or even small raises. Follow HR protocols and discipline employees who do not follow the Employee Handbook.

Only componsation is good rest is bad.. Arogant people manage everything.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Bangalore (India)

    ProsGood Compensation and Free cabs
Senior management is good specially IT head and HR.

    ConsRegion based politics.
Some immature junior resources given responsibility of managing team since manager was not so efficient specially agroscience. This brings down the overall team morale.
Food is pathetic but it is free..
Some senior people try to change the cab routes.
Some managers feel that are very good in process even though they have very limited knowledge.
People who shout more considered are people with good knowledge in agroscience.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow people with experience to handle the team. Immatured people are making it a mess and making others unhappy about the company and team.

Ends unemployment because they employ anyone, but they are bullies and unproffesional

Laboratory Technician (Former Employee) Acton, London, England (UK)

ProsThey always have vacancies because so many staff leave, longest people stay is two years because they cant find other jobs, more recently people stay 6 months in the job and return to studies or just quit. I was however told it is the company policy to have staff leaving as it is part of the business plan. Therefore as I said there are always vacancies.

You can eat the food that isn't tested in the food lab during 1 hour dinner break, or you can take home the chocolates after work.

Can leave early if all the work is done, hours 2pm to 10pm

Staff they employ are nice people. And when I started felt close to staff there but as staff leave and new staff join the feelings change.

ConsSome practices were poor habits, such as the pippette skills or overflowing bins. You are rushed and told to work faster and faster with profits placed before quality. I found some of their practices difficult to accept as they were not how we were taught to work in school.

They employ women the majority of time because cheaper than men. Also almost all staff are foreign. Was told because women are faster than men and foreign workers suffer less stress.

The manager watches staff through window at his desk to make sure everyone working, they also put CCTV cameras up to watch staff.

The bins outside are full and piled against the wall because the company tries to save money with collections. Rats were once reported in the building but staff were told it was because they are untidy in the staff room.

If the work is finished early you leave early but if not complete you are forced to work up to 2am. On a 12 hour shift.

On one occasion the pipe broke and they were worried about contamination as contaminated water samples are poured down charcoal drains and but still survive in pipes.

The floor had not been cleaned since the site opened ten years early and needed cleaning to impress customer, although auditors do visit and never complained.

You are made to lift heavy boxes and water samples come in trays with 20 water bottles on a tray. When I complained it was tiring I was told if I could not do the job to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave anonymous staff complaints box so staff could vent their frustrations before they get angry and leave.

Pay staff similar pay and dont have staff starting the same day on different wages because of agencies.

I have worked at Eurofins for 3 years

Microbiologist (Former Employee) Otterbourne, England (UK)

    ProsFriendly staff
    Learning new skills, continuous training

ConsThe pay! Oh the pay! Breadline you say? Actually worse. Unless you are absolutely desperate seek employment elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's simple: better pay means people are happier and stay for longer. Low pay means you have high turnover, you spend long time training new staff, low skilled workforce.

Filthy Restrooms, 10 year old technology and Employee Unfriendly policies

Tech Lead (Current Employee) Bangalore (India)

ProsCabs, Free food (Not good) and friendly people
    Short time onsites.
    Good pay.

ConsPlease do not join this company. There is no transparency. They tell that job in advanced technologies and after joining you will see that is in very old technologies like classic ASP, VB6 etc. Please be very care full joining in Bangalore location. Also it has filthy rest rooms equivalent to one in bus stands.
Those who go to short term onsite need to serve company for another 10 months even the onsite is for 2 weeks. Otherwise need to payback the onsite expenditure back to company.
No understanding of what we are going to work.
Employee unfriendly, no work from home policy.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep a transparency on what exactly employees work. and about the policies
Please introduce employee friendly policy instead of the unrealistic travel policy.
Also, note that employees stay in a company based on trust and not based on restricted policies.

Employees are cattle. Only directors and above get the money...

    Management (Current Employee)

ProsGrowing company (although not sure for how long)

    ConsGilles (Martin) Kingdom.
Employees are pawns. New buzz words: TGHP...Eurofins plan to hire only from without (no internal promotions) to offer top dollars to "Top Grads with High Potential". If you are hoping to advance, sorry, not for you. They want outsiders to come in and measure YOUR efficiency. Oh, and by the way: current Medinet employees? you are about to lose your job to Lancaster....rumor has it, Lancaster is validating a brand new lab to take over all Medinet testing -in secret!...and all current Medinet employees will have to transfer from Chantilly, VA to Lancaster, PA or they are let go...Shhh, it's a secret! How's that for an honest relationship? Beware...this company is not trustworthy! Not the first time and won't be the last time that Eurofins made such an uncaring decision. And they squeeze every drop of your time or you are considered not a team player...

Advice to Senior ManagementYour turnover is only the beginning of your woes. Pay attention more to the welfare of your employees and not just on your networking capital. How many times has Des Moines seen turnover? And now your shared services are being transferred to Lancaster? How long until your Lancaster employees get smart? Eventually, the economic environment will improve and you will not be able to retain any more good people because they will be too smart to stay.

    Disappointing

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsManagement was decent. Time off wasnt too hard to obtain for vacas. They do promote from within often

ConsLittle to know upward mobility. Pay was bad. Everybody from upper management to the lower rungs were departing reallly, really quickly.

I didn't hold a key position, but in the main national service side had like 6-8 people left in a one year times. The head purchasing and IT left - and where I worked (lab side), people left much faster due to being hourly and given very little upward opportunities

Go elsewhere for a decent job

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsOffice/lab is within 30 minute drive of anywhere in Des Moines

ConsThe place smells horrible - either like biproduct (dead things) or manure. The pay among lab staff and admin staff below director level is subpar and their health benefits are the worst I've ever seen - over $500 a month employee cost for family insurance. I have been working here as a temp for two months and witnessed many instances of questionable behavior among managers. Example: the administrative area was closed off due to black mold but the lab staff was lied to and told they are just painting that area. The catholic religion/rules are regularly discussed openly by HR staff in front of other staff. I recently took a tour of the laboratories and have never seen a more unhappy group of people. I was offered a permanent position, however, am not interested at any rate. Turnover is extremely high among not only Eurofins Scientific but among all the Eurofins business units (they go by many different names). My two month contract here is almost up and I couldn't be happier. I would rather be unemployed than work here. Beware!! The CEO, Michael Russell, is the only person I have met here that didn't leave me with a feeling of creepiness. A very odd group of people! The administrative staff in the Des Moines location will most likely not have jobs within a couple years as they are slowly moving operations to another service center in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

I would only work there temporarily or not at all.

    Lab Technician (Former Employee)

ProsThe people are nice, for the most part. It's a job and you'll always have 40 hours a week. They rarely fire people.

ConsYou will never be promoted. The turnover rate is extremely high; most of the people that work there are temps so think about this before you accept full time employment with them. You will be underpaid. The management has little to no training and can be very juvenile. It is best to only work here temporarily until you find a good job.

Advice to Senior ManagementGo to some sort of management training. Hire assistant supervisors who have management experience. Promote and reward people who do well.

Sent me back to grad school.

Analyst (Former Employee) Memphis, TN (US)

ProsI recieved some industry experience while working as an analyst.

Consthe environment was anti-intellectual and suppressive of thought due to overhead economic pressure. The air conditioning stopped working.

    Advice to Senior Managementnone.
