    Pros

flexible work hours , salary , benefits , paid time off ,

    Cons

under valued , treated as a number , on going layoffs after each quarter end .

    Advice to Management

keep an eye out on your employees that get paid the big bucks and do not know what they are doing . on location IT is a total joke and nowhere to be found most of the time .

  2. It's not a bad company, but it's in love with analytics, which is impacting the work environment.

    Pros

    Good benefits and salary.
Some flexibility in work hours and work at home
    Good bonus plan

    Cons

Raises are sporadic and very small
There is too much process and HR seems to be running the company.
Analytics is putting pressure on employees and it relies on non-experts trying to determine how long experts should take to do their jobs. It's not accurate.

    Advice to Management

Curb the big data implementation - it takes time away from the work and non-experts telling an expert how much time it should take to do their job is ridiculous.
Reduce the role of HR in determining the resources on important projects - it should be driven by R&D
    Less process and analytics.

    Pros

Great Place to work at. Very friendly and extremely helpful co-workers. Lots of opportunities to learn new stuff. Would recommend a friend to apply.

    Cons

Need appropriate training and guidance for interns and co-ops. Should be immensely independent and be willing and skilful to manage tasks on our own.

    Pros

Medium-sized company, focused on optical and packet networking. It strives to challenge the status quo and redefine the network layers. It is poised for growth.

    Cons

Performance awards are not generous perhaps due to the fact that it is not profitable especially after the Nortel acquisition. Little attention is paid on helping employees manage and grow their careers within the company.

    Advice to Management

Increase the priority of career development for employees even if that change means leaving to a different organization or role.

    Pros

    - Good people, helpful and smart
    - Interesting work
    - Decent gym (free), good coffee, and very good cafeteria food (note this is in Kanata, not Carling Lab 10)
    - Stock purchase plan

    Cons

    - RRSP matching plan is sub-standard compared to others in Ottawa
    - Management constantly over-commits to customers, then expects the rank and file to work evenings and weekends to meet these deadlines. Employees who don't meet these deadlines are punished via layoffs and/or poor performance reviews.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people or set more realistic deadlines.

    flexibility for family
    somewhat interesting work

    Cons

    (specific to MEN division)
'Nortel' culture and old boy system still exists.
little opportunity for advancement in career. Too many old Nortel hands hanging on.
    Outdated views of development.

    Advice to Management

Create professional advancement opportunities To be fair they have tried via some internal certifications and courses.

    Pros

Great people, interesting projects, great place to learn new technology. Salaries are competitive. Regular information sessions held to give a report on the state of the company.

    Cons

At par with all other industries as far as no taking company loyalty into consideration when implementing a work force reduction.

    Advice to Management

I don't really have any advice for management. Communication to the employees is good. All forms of technology are used.
