It provided me a great hospital pharmacy experience as a pharmacy student.

I have been working at Children's Hospital Boston

    Pros

The hospital provides training for students in various parts of the pharmacy throughout the hospital. Also a great place to make connections with pharmacists.

    Cons

    Pharmacy intern management.
Pay is low for interns compared to other hospitals in the area or retail pharmacies.
Interns get a raise once a year.

I worked at Children's Hospital Boston part-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The entire mission of the hospital is terrific for the patients and families. I have worked for other hospitals and the upbeat and positivity at Children's is amazing.

    Cons

Some of the nurse managers tend to be controlling and not accept valid and constructive feedback from (non-nurse) employees who are experts on the projects we've worked on for years. I was laid off due to a "department reorganization" in a very brusk, rude, no-notice manner despite many years of employment at the hospital with excellent yearly reviews from former managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees who deal directly with patients and families ... we actually know what we are doing!

I have been working at Children's Hospital Boston as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

The leadership encourages individuality, independence and trust.

    Cons

The building could use a major renovation. Computer hardware, cubicles, interior design feels like an elementary school from the 1980's, extremely outdated. Lacking sunlight from outside induces subtle feelings of claustrophobia.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In addition to the 'welcome new staff member' email, consider showing the new hire around the office space and formally introducing them to staff outside of the team that would serve as a valuable resource to them. Making this effort should demonstrate the importance of relationship building and help the new hire feel comfortable in the new environment.
