    Pros

CSI is involved in renewable energy

    Cons

with FIT 3.0, is CSI going to continue in Ontario?

I have been working at Canadian Solar full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - always hiring new people as staff always quitting and job opportunities in Guelph very limited with the economy in toilet - desperate to work and pay the bills (barely paid enough - $1800.00 a month)
    - factory job is very easy, very, very boring to be there for the 12 hour shift, but good to have more days off each week
    - employees are mostly new immigrants and very friendly people, managers are clearly unqualified and loud, agressive bullies that treat staff like slaves
    - very organized operation, clean building - smell of chemicals is very strong throughout factory (not sure what it is)

    Cons

    - very, very hot working in factory and very noisy
    - standing on concrete floors in steel toe boots for 12 hours is cruel and unusual, 30 minutes for lunch and 2 breaks is not enough to relax
    - staff training is poor, new staff are put on factory floor and left to figure things out on their own (other staff usually help each other learn) as managers are busy yelling at staff to work faster and they are always stressed trying to fix broken robots and then hiding in their office
    - managers and supervisers are very mean and unqualified, they work well with the robots and doing the paperwork but their people skills are the worst, never have anything nice to say to anyone (never a 'good morning', how are you?), insist on daily criticizing and yelling at staff to go faster and don't stop the line! Constantly blaming staff for delays when the robots breakdown and stop line production, and supplies are not available when needed to continue

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - hire people for managemant that can manage people and motivate them instead of always criticizing them and yelling at staff constantly just to make yourself feel important
    - pay more money as the work is very physica, challenging for 12 hours a day, $13.50 an hour is not enough to live and the work is wery hard and staff constantly quit because 12 hour shifts are exhausting

Investors beware!! Sell now! (MV) units. Every unit manufactured to date needs major service, on-site overhaul.

I have been working at Canadian Solar as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Very relaxed un-supervised work environment. Other than that there has never been any real issue. When a goal is met ( far and few between ) they do celebrate with a good lunch currently quotas are in place but there is no repercussion for not making them. Or any changes.

    Cons

Poor quality MV side in London plant. Poor management. Currently looking for other employment before public announcement of the failing progress. Another con is other than the 4 supervisors that have no idea what they are doing EVERY SINGLE EMPLOYEE IS A TEMP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire experienced skilled workers. Not temps!!, the current employees have no desire for quality at all what so ever.

I worked at Canadian Solar as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Working at this company is a perfect way to learn on how to NOT manage a company/staff

    Cons

The USA office is a showcase of an HR nightmare:

    1) Racist and sexist remarks spewed from upper management nearly every day.
    2) No career growth trajectory or promotion plan
    3) unless you are in sales, good luck receiving any respect.
    4) Inappropriate relationships seem to be whole heartily respected
    5) Archaic "office rules". Run almost like a High School
    6) Lies lies lies and more lies coming from the very top
    7) Staff largely uneducated. Major decision makers hardly can string together a sentence of proper English.

If you go for an interview, I suggest asking the turnover rate of the company and demanding an answer as to why.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you live in this country, please respect its laws and culture. Your behavior will not go unnoticed much longer.

A very unprofessional place to try and work

Former Employee - Customer Service in San Ramon, CA (US)

I worked at Canadian Solar full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There are some nice people in the marketing and finance departments who come to work to do their job and who are very professional too.

    Cons

Where do I begin? This place is run by bullies. They insult coworkers regularly and gossip is rampant. They set up people to fail if they don't like them and talking loudly and swearing is common here. And if you are bold enough to speak up to management it gets worse. Ironically you have to take a harassment course when you start working there and everything they say they will not tolerate...is tolerated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take IMMEDIATE actions towards bullies and protect people that are there to work and be professional. Don't close your doors and allow it because that person has been there for a long time. And then when someone comes to you for support PLEASE back them up with the appropriate action and please let it remain anonymous so that person is not subject to more retaliation.

    Going downhill

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Canadian Solar

    Pros

The CEO has a good vision but needs to up the morale. Company has a relatively good product for a good price.

    Cons

The company is too focused on cutting costs/corners in every level at the expense of its employees. Employees are constantly worried that they will be fired/laid off due to management's fear tactics. There is a lot of nepotism, favortism, and backstabbing going around. Employees that have been there for years have not seen raises. Low to zero appreciation for employees or their efforts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in managers that are not just out for themselves but that see the big picture and genuinely are interested in seeing their employees develop. The employee morale will see a boost if you do this. Invest in your employees and see them as an asset instead of a liability. Ditch the fear tactics.
