Good place to start and get experience.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat people to work with, decent benefits, 40 hour week for most employees, adequate pay for the area.

ConsNot a lot of opportunity for growth, unless you well connected. If you do get a promotion, it will only reflect your title, without change in pay. Poor communication from upper management. Company is behind on innovation side of things.

    Management

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsDecent benefits, lots of structure (which can also be a con).

ConsNot convinced that the company values employees as much as they claim they do, too strict with job pay ranges.

Communication Problems and Slow Response to Questions

    Logistics (Former Employee)

ProsAtmosphere is friendly. Rate of pay is okay. Opportunity to advance if you play the game their way. Occasionally proactive to situations.

ConsManagement has HUGE problems communicating effectively or accurately to their employees or perspective (contract) employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to tell the truth and not WALK on your employees. Remember you came from somewhere.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Career Path

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThere was no need to worry about advancement. All high level positons were filled by those from the outside.

ConsUnless you are in the Fox River Valley, you have little chance to advance. At the plant level, outsiders were constantly brought in to take higher level positions.

It's a family company, with all that comes with that

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Shirley, MA (US)

ProsFirst, the company is very important in the surrounding towns: it's a big employer locally, and the owners (the Howard Family) make a lot of local investments and coordinate a lot of volunteer work. The benefits include access to a small onsite gym, family healthplan with no premium, and a pension plan in addtion to a 401K plan.

ConsIf you've come from a larger corporate environment, you may be disappointed. The management is rather amateurish. My impression is that the current generation of family ownership is very civic minded, but lacks business experience. Middle-management especially is homegrown and very week. This could be an opportunity if you have a background in modern, metrics based management...you would be bringing religion to the wilderness here.

Advice to Senior ManagementAlthough it's worked well for you so far, you may be left behind unless you embrace modern management techniques. Senior-management would especially benefit from some more seasoned hands.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
