Pros – Having Holidays off and friendliness of mid level management.

Cons – Pay. stressfulness of adapting to the constant changes in policy's & procedures. no job security.

Pros – BB&T is one of the few financial institutions that has weathered the financial crisis relatively unscathed. They have great stability and leadership at the top who understand the banking industry. A pension as well as generous 401-k are great perks of working there. I believe they are fair to the customers in most situations. You can feel good about your job knowing that you have helped someone in some aspect of their financial life. Most major initiatives I can see the logic in from a competitive standpoint.

Cons – Over an eleven year tenure I could see that BBT always followed the footsteps of its rivals. Wells (formerly Wachovia) and B of A would implement a major initiative BBT would evaluate and typically follow suit. This is necessary from a competitive standpoint but doesn't make for the best work environment due to increased emphasis on the bottom-line with a decreased emphasis on quality of life. Branch staff is usually overworked and underpaid. It used to be banking was a relationship oriented business. Not anymore. Transactional in nature. My particular experience is that after an 9 years as a top performer in various positions I was let go after I took a territory that was new and had no potential. My manager didn't spend much time helping me and I would almost say didn't give a rip. I was hired by his predecessor and I think he wanted to fill the position with someone more like him. I expressed an interest in a transfer within the company but he wasn't willing to sign off. If you are an investment counselor they treat you as a contract employee. In retail positions they will typically work with you to help you out. Graduates of their management program are almost untouchable as far as reductions. I've seen many less than stellar talent get promoted over other more qualified individuals. Most non-branch/non-production positions are in Winston with some in Wilson. In addition banking isn't really a growth area now and probably won't be for quite some time. If you're in a branch you better be comfortable on the phone. People just don't come in to do banking anymore but you still have to drive revenue.

Advice to Senior Management – You talk a lot about loyalty to the company when it's time to talk money but when the employee needs some help you don't really care.

Pros – Good benefits and salary. Stable company.

Cons – Lack of direction from management. Too many managers out for personal gain and not whats right for the company or employees.

Advice to Senior Management – Take a better look at middle management and start listening to the employees.

Pros – BB&T employs a plethora of great people that are value based and friendly

Cons – BB&T has lower than normal salary compensation for its employees while at the same time having a less than robust benefits package unless you are a tenured employee

Pros – Love the job and may of the people. Really believe in Senior Management and their vision for the company and it's future. I would've been a loyal employee for life.

Cons – MANY MANY depts have Senior level managers who are only looking out for their carreer and not what's best for the company or dept they are supposed to be leading. Personally withnessed lieing, taking credit for others work, and general dislike of loyal employees who do their job but aren't considered "super stars" because they don't kiss up to people. I stood up for my employees and my manager when a Senior level manager wanted to help get her fired. I really felt a HUGE loyality to this company and ultimately was let down. A few bad apples ruin it for everyone. However i'm SO VERY thankful for the lessons I learned and will apply them to my next job and work environment.

Advice to Senior Management – Senior Mgmt: You are doing great things and have created a great environment - ask your lower & middle level managers what is best.... you're senior leaders may not be as in touch with whats going on and how things should work...or worse ...looking at only the corporate ladder and not their people. PS WATCH YOUR TURN OVER... if a Manager has >75%.... maybe it's the manager and not the job.

Pros – Great company to build your network, Company remains true to its mission and values. Work-life balance is respected.

Cons – Bottleneck in certain advancement opportunities, Management is hit or miss. Skeleton crew staffing structure is the norm.

Pros – Give you leads thru relationship bankers, sometimes.

Cons – Manager says I am here to help you but was really there presure you if you did not make monthly quota. The atmosphere of "What have you done for me lately" ! Manager presure you to sell whatever to clients to make quota and doesn't care if it's good or not for client.

Pros – Sr Management does things to keep employees happy, such as giving you your birthday off. Benefits are very good, especially for singles.

Cons – The pay is so-so for the industry. Biggest drawback is opportunities for growth, you may be told one thing at one point, but then something completely different. Depends on the department, but from my experience and others I know, management that actually cares about personal employee growth versus how their review looks is harder and harder to find

Advice to Senior Management – Take a look at employees who work hard (at all levels) and give them opportunities to keep learning and growing, this will keep alot of the good employees happy, as well as make them want even more to be a part of this company. Overall, BB&T is a solid company to work for in an economy that is less than desirable.

Pros – Good work - life balance and helpful training at BB&T University

Cons – Company eliminated unpaid vacation in 2012 due to a lawsuit. Unpaid vacation days not available. Paid 10 days for many employees. Assistant VP & VP get 15 paid days. Senior VP get 20 days. You get more days for length of service - at 5 years & 10 years bonus vacation days. You get standard bank holidays (Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving, etc).

Advice to Senior Management – Most BB&T employees believe everyone gets the BB&T pension so they make comments to BB&T Subsidiary employees that do not have the pension benefit without realizing their mistake... In the 2012 Corporate employee survey the question about the Pension was worded assuming everyone had the Pension - there should have been a "not applicable" answer. Everyone in my reporting group (about a dozen Associates) has the pension benefit except me. They're on the bank P&L so being on the Subsidiary P&L excludes me. My work is very similar to everyone else that reports to my Manager. Everyone in a reporting group should be getting the same treatment and benefits so we can all enjoy the BB&T Corporate "happiness" value equally.
