I have been working at AutoNation full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Success isn't based on performance. It's based entirely on kissing butt. If you take a job with Autonation just bring in donuts and McDonalds to the management and you will move up. Period!!!

Management is so lazy you can pretty much do anything you want. Except make money.

    Cons

    Terrible management
    Lack of training
    Poor pay plan
    Long hours
    Lying to customers

To be honest, pretty much everything was a con

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

management at Autonation Nissan of Brandon is a joke!!! Takki, the used car manager is the only one worth keeping. Everyone else is useless. Ei, never there, and if they are they are probably on there cell phone playing candy crush. This is by far the worst company I have ever worked for. I can in to this business from Hilton Worldwide and will soon be returning to them. They expect you to achieve goals that are not even possible given the amount of cars the dealership sells. This company is a bad joke, I would work for them if me or my family's life depended on it.

My advice would be to accept any job besides with this company. Believe it or not.

    I worked at AutoNation

    Pros

Within the industry benefits are decent.

    Cons

All they care about are profit margins, people are "replaceable"
No proper compensation review system in place - you can forget about COLA (raises)
HR is a joke - they are puppets in managers hands and offer little help to solve issues

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your managers and employees, they want to be heard and appreciated. Invest in a leadership program for your staff and improve communication.

    I worked at AutoNation

    Pros

I have absolutely no Pros for this company!!! None

    Cons

SSC in Irving, Texas is a joke. It is the worst place. They work you like a dog, no room for advancement unless you are in the click. Lots of unnecessary overtime when most of the time you are sitting around wondering why you are still there because you can't leave until they dismiss you, like you are in school. It's nothing but a family affair, supervisors and managers give jobs to all there friends and family members. Stay as far away from that place, if you don't, trust me, you will regret it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of current management and get some people in there that will actually run the company and listen and care about their employees.

    I worked at AutoNation

    Pros

Good pay, nice environment, and clean place.

    Cons

Long hiring process. Manager is unorganized. Training by people who are more interested in reading magazines and Facebook than work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get organized and have professional people do training.

I worked at AutoNation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

2 weeks paid vacation, Holiday pay, flexible hours (at least in my department) and decent benefits.

    Cons

What a joke! The Shared Service Center is in need of a complete overhaul! They use ADP which is an ancient software program from the mid 90's, that causes more harm than good. Everything is completely manual and it is easy for mistakes to happen that are hard to correct. Half the programs they provide don't even work most of the time. The management and HR team are a joke! They spend more time worried about making themselves look better than being concerned about how their employees are doing and how the teams are functioning. They will say over and over that they are committed to your advancement but are quick to toss you to the curb like a piece of garbage if you disagree with them. I felt like I was attending Jr. High again when I worked there. All the managers had to write a "Social Contract" because the office politics were so bad! News flash management.... NO ONE FOLLOWS IT... NOT EVEN YOU! Don't listen to the well rated comments either. It is HR trying to move all the bad reviews down because the turn over rate for the Shared Service Center, wait who am I kidding the WHOLE company in the past 6 months has been absurdly high and Management/HR wonder why! Because you treat your hard working employees like dirt and your completely unstable employees with the utmost respect. Give me a break! This place is a living nightmare.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Vice President and Director need to pull their heads out of the sand and realize the management they have running the departments at the SSC are completely incapable of doing so! If you want to know why you have lost so many great employees this year that is why!

    Pros

A place to work, better than getting bit by a shark.

    Cons

Everything else. Horrible facility, inept managers, worst job ever

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people based on their knowledge, not because he's related. And it helps if the management didn't. Sleep with the office staff

    Pros

Some really good co workers. Buying a car here is easy and you can get crazy deals cuz management is constantly desperate.

    Cons

Everything else. I signed 3 pay plans in a year, hours are insane long, and they will find ways to steal from you non stop. My GM at the time would give ppl "Free" parts or service and take it out of front end because he "sold" the free stuff out of my cut. So he still gets paid and the salesperson gets the shaft. Pay plan is not near what other spots offer.

I have been working at AutoNation full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

There are a handful of nice people working alongside you. Most of the customers are good, decent people, simply looking to buy a car and be treated respectfully and professionally through the process. Otherwise, there are no redeeming qualities about this company whatsoever.

    Cons

    1) They lie to get you interested in working for them.

    2) They set false income expectations.

    3) They operate with a "shoot from the hip" management style. Despite all of the processes they have, there is no structure in the way the dealerships operate.

4 ) If you happen to earn a decent income for a given month, expect to have to work even harder to match it the following month. Pay plans change as often as the weather.

    5) Forget about having any kind of life outside of the dealership. Work schedules mean nothing. Expect to be there until very late at night, often past midnight.

    6) There is a culture of "playing the blame game". More time is spent pointing fingers and making accusations and assumptions instead of making deals and taking care of customers.

    7) Their training is meaningless. Trainers (who are nothing more than overpaid hacks who were miserable failures on the job when THEY were in the dealership) spend more time trying to indoctrinate employees than actually working with them to help them sharpen and enhance their skills and actually perform at optimum levels.

    8) To say that employees are micromanaged is an understatement. There is no room or tolerance for independent thinking. Any individual initiative to facilitate any type of improvement is perceived as a threat. In other words, if you work for AutoNation, you have to be a Stepford Wife.

    9) Corporate earnings are going up while employee earnings are going down.

    10) The company will seize any opportunity to short-change you on your income. They will come up with an encyclopedia of excuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1) AutoNation needs to recognize that the key to success and growth is the people who work for you, and depend on you to support their families. It's very easy to see that this company really doesn't care about them.

    2) While the company ultimately has to answer to shareholders, the shareholders will see even greater dividends if you invest in high-caliber, professional quality personnel rather than order-takers who can't properly fill an order at a fast food drive-thru.

    3) Stop trying to re-invent automotive retailing. You're destroying it. People can no longer make a decent living because of the way you operate. You have customers who know more about the cars they're buying than the so-called professionals you have in your employ.

    3) Stop bragging about your training. It sucks. Your training isn't "proprietary". It's the same recycled rubbish that other companies use. Companies who have been around longer than AutoNation.

    4) If a commission is earned, PAY IT. Don't bamboozle your employees with accounting methods that Hollywood studios use to obscure profits on a motion picture. Not all of your employees are stupid or gullible.

    5) Remember that while some of you are spending your weekend on your boats, there are people working (SLAVING) until the wee hours of the morning to make your boat payments. No one begrudges you having these things, but remember you used to be working in your father's dealership, not knowing a spark plug from an ignition key, or cleaning wrenches for a mechanic.

    Pros

If you have no talent but are a YES Man or a politician you will fit right in!

    Cons

They are ONE WAY in every aspect of the term. They will cut your pay plan every other month, incorrectly calculate your compensation in their favor by "mistake". NO bonuses for a good job, but they will find ways to take money from you if there is any excuse at all. Managers with no experience are put in the highest positions that they are not qualified for degrading the level in which you are able to do your job after they are done cutting you out. The definition of micro-management. There are far too many managers, district managers, regional managers, corporate HR, corporate trainers and many other unnecessary managers to make the company top heavy so they can pressure the people who produce more than anywhere else. They constantly want you to change things but don't give you the tools or the backup to do so. Benefits are horrible, you would pay less for insurance without an employer, they contribute nothing and do not care about you in any way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the amount of upper management and corporate managers, they do nothing except collect a check and look at reports. Quit trying to reinvent the wheel and trying to turn the car industry into Wal-Mart because your service and quality will reflect the same.
