    Pros

Good experience in subsea equipment, especially trees and controls. Many people that work there go on to very lucrative careers at other companies. They had great flex time packages and insurance when I worked there.

    Cons

Very high turnover, inexperienced staff, and much lower quality since buyout of Kvaerner by Aker. Safety issues were rising steadily while I was there.

    Advice to Management

Management just needs to be changed, it is an engineering company that should be run by engineers like it used to be. Currently much of the senior staff including the president is made up of former sales people who have no idea how to run a company.

An arena where American managerial style is imposed on an unsuspecting workforce by unscrupulous, weak management/HR.

    Pros

Interesting projects, good colleagues. Good subsidised restaurant, although the food is usually cold by the time you have queued to pay for it.

    Cons

The core values to which we all aim to heed and promote are nothing more than a letterhead when it comes to performing to the advertised values, where management are concerned.
A culture of bullying from management is prevalent. Shouting, desk thumping, and emotional cruelty are rife. At a time of a downturn in the industry, dirty tactics are used to encourage staff to leave, to reduce the impending staff layoffs.
Workload is increased well beyond that which can be achieved within the 37.5 hour week, whilst payment for overtime is refused although it is in your contract.
The man management is weak and an indication that it was not so long ago that Norway missed out on the industrial revolution, and all of the lessons learned thereafter.
Your contract of employment will state one location as your place of work, but it will likely be a different location.
You will be limited to the 37.5 hour week, but meetings which you must attend, will be set for 8am through 95% of the day until after 5pm. You will be expected to work for free after the 37.5 hours, into the early hours at your home. No Exceptions!
If you disagree with the American management style, you will be on a slippery slope out of the door. Do not expect the Norwegian management to support you. This is a flat structure, where only the bullies speak out, and therefore they reign supreme.
Nobody records or cares how many hours over the 37.5 hours you have worked. There is no measurement, no record, no cost, no accountability.

    Advice to Management

Live by the values you so quickly promote to the outside world. They are the values by which you are measured each day. Stop the bullying management tactics ! If you cannot pay a person for the hours he works, and that person cannot book those hours in your time system, how can you ever calculate the true amount of effort used to complete the project. All project estimates will be based on false figures because you have no way of recording the truth. All companies should know exactly how much effort it takes to perform. If they fail to do this, they fail their workforce, and a storm is brewing over the horizon!

Interesting work soured by incompetent HR and a management that seems to strive to make employees feel worthless/pawns.

    Pros

Half day Fridays are a positive.

    Cons

Constant changes without any direction. Meager bonuses - recently less than 1% of salary. No company culture. Extremely weak management team. No motivation to work towards common goal. Weak President of North America who doesn't interact with employees or develop a culture of collaboration and excellence. Many groups have had entire teams leave. Legal group has had 3 out of 4 members leave in last 3 months due to poor leadership from General Counsel. HR team has had multiple people leave and support to organization is poor from entire group because of lack of resources. Business development team has had key/best people leave to join competitors. If this isn't a sign of a sinking ship then I don't know what is. Go work for a company that actually values employees.

    Advice to Management

Hire executive team that has significant experience and leadership skills. Promoting from within to save money will only work for so long. Cultivate strong leaders in the organization instead of cutting budgets for training. Value your employees and they will work hard for you. Embody the core values instead of just posting them on the walls. These are simple concepts but executive team does not grasp them or does not have the aptitude to lead.

    Pros

I am sure there are some very well meaning people in management that think the posters about Core Values are working.

    Cons

There are so many things that could be said, but I will keep it short. Senior-level management not only allows, but creates forged records. The posters regarding “Core Values” are merely colorful pictures on the wall. There is such thing as Whistle Blowers hotline, but I would have to have a modicum of trust for the people running the program.

    Advice to Management

Quit turning blind eyes to what you know is happening.

    Pros

The Money was Good. That's about it.
If you are in dire need of money and can put up with a lot of "STUFF", then come on and get some of this!!
If you are already in the oilfield, Please read the "CONS" very carefully.

    Cons

    Very Low Morale.
    Doom and Gloom Atmosphere.
Management downright pathetic. Has no business being in the position.
    Favoritism. Big Time!!
No Promotions, no acknowledgement of good performance.
    Perform Mission Impossible on Products.
Does not practice what they preach.
Mgmt gets very defensive when you try to ask questions. No open door policy for everyone. Only a select few.

    Advice to Management

Unfixable. They are in it for the title and that's it!
Position filler at best. Only got that way thru the buddy system.

    Pros

Relaxed enviornment, is the only good thing till they dont get after you.

    Cons

Underneath the relaxed env there is strong politics by management and HR who are continuosly flattering Norway counterparts and care nothing about the employees, breaking job laws all the time. Most Norway Managers come to US for shopping trips than Business.

    Advice to Management

Each new manager wants to get new rules and policies alongwith the HR.Lots of employees after years of service have been blamed and let go in a second. easily get away by citing its a Norwegian company and follow thier rules..but watchout you are probably going to face the mirror one day. What happens to others can happen to you as well.

    Pros

Pay is excellent to start with, very competitive. Recruiters and most people at the company are friendly, everyone works flex hours

    Cons

The company spent over 1 month interviewing and aggressively recruiting me because of my qualifications. Turns out I was overqualified for the position. Stayed 2 months before being laid off due to lack of work even though I was told how busy they were at the time I was hired. No complaints from anyone about my job performance since I was never trained for the job - they had me opening mail and filing the entire time instead of what I was hired for. Waste of 2 months for a job I can't even list on my resume. Pay raises for office staff are barely 3% and that's if you're lucky.

    Advice to Management

Get some managers with spines, most that I saw were controlled by their senior staff. Need better communication with staff. Stop having so many meetings! Never sure exactly what they are trying to tell employees during these meetings, they seem to be a way to waste time.
