Part Time Sales Advisor Interview

Part Time Sales Advisor
Calgary, AB

I applied online and the process took 2 days - interviewed at H&M.

Interview Details A miniature phone interview from the classic interview question book (greatest weakness, availability, ability skills) then was offered a very casual in-store interview with two visuals who asked very general questions about previous work experience and situational customer problems. After meeting with the store manager the next day I was then considered for a part-time position. Easy interview overall.

Part Time Sales Advisor Interview

Part Time Sales Advisor
Toronto, ON

I applied in-person and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at H&M in June 2010.

Interview Details Unnecessarily long interview process that most other sales advisors did not have:
- Short one-on-one interview at the Eaton's Centre during a Job Fair day
- A week or so later, group interview at their Queen Street West location: in an upstairs meeting room with ten or so other associates taking part in ridiculous group activities (rummaging through clothes to put together thematic sets, stacking coloured boxes to represent window displays)
- An interview at the store I desired to work at, a week after, with a Department Manager and then a second interview a few days after that with the Store Manager, both of these being traditional sit-down interviews (reviewing my resume, discussing previous experience)

Interview Question – No difficult questions, the one-on-one interviews were very traditional
The group interview required us performing tasks involving crates of clothes and coloured boxes with graphics representing the components of a store display

Part-time Sales Advisor Interview

Part-time Sales Advisor
Montreal, QC

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at H&M.

Interview Details When I first applied, there were no stores open in my city, therefore I didn't know the company very well. I applied over the internet and got a phone call from the HR team in the following weeks. They asked me why I would like to work for H&M, what I knew about the company, what was my background and wether I was applying for full-time or part-time.

They later invited me to the first actual interview, which was held in a hotel. A lot of people were being interviewed, as this was the first store opening in the region. I finally met with one of the managers from Toronto that was recruiting for Montreal and he was very nice. He asked me questions about my style, what kind of music I listened to, which were my favorite colours, and the more general questions about the company.

He told me his coworker would be there for the second interview and asked me to come back two days later. On the second interview he was still by himself, his coworker couldn't make it, so he hired me on the spot.

Interview Question – I was asked what I would do if I had to redecorate the room in which my interview was taking place.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I didn't negociate, as this was my first student job.

I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at H&M in June 2013.

Interview Details I responded to a job add online on hm.com. Short after that, a department manager called me, and invited me for interview. On the phone, they were already asking basic question, like if I can work night shifts and weather I can take weekend shift, and if I can work full time or part time. During the interview, I was responding to visual merchandiser and department manager. It was very relaxed, they were both funny and nice looking people, so I wasn't nervous at all. One thing - they tended to point out, that the job is really hard, and that they are fed up with it sometimes. They were quite impressed, when I was talking about company's history, so I got that going for me. At the end of interview, they just told me, they will let me know and 3 days later, they called me, that I have been hired.

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at H&M in June 2013.

Interview Details My initial interview was over the phone with a recruiter in L.A. The interview went well and the recruiter was easy to talk to and outgoing. He then scheduled me for an in person interview about 3 days later
When I first reached the store, I was surprised how busy it was. When I found a sales associate to tell me I was there for an interview, he complemented me on being on time. However, the manager was not. He had apparently written down the wrong time for our interview (should have been a sign) and I had to wait around for 30 minutes.
The interview was pretty basic. First you have to fill out a basic background check. He asked me about my previous jobs, what retail experience I had. He then asked how I would deal with difficult customers and difficult situation. Basic retail interview. I felt I did really well and he told me he would contact me in a few days. However, I never heard anything; not even a sorry you didn't get the job. I am convinced they do not hire anyone over 30, that's the only reason I'm sure I didn't get the job-I have years of experience.

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at H&M in May 2013.

Interview Details I applied online a few times and was called out of the blue. I was surprised by the call because I had received an email stating that I didn't meet the qualifications for the position. However, I had modified my resume to include words from the job posting and that's probably what made the difference. I had a phone interview where I was asked about my availability and about my retail experience, and then I was asked to come in the following week. The interview was done by two department managers and the store manager. I was mostly asked about my experience and willingness to work early and late hours. They made it clear that it was a demanding job. A few days later I was called for a second interview but I was asked to bring in my SS card and all identifying information, so I assumed that I was hired. When I got there I found out it was an onboarding and was offered the position with no opportunity for negotiation.

Interview Question – How many items of clothing per day did you process working in stock at your previous job?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – There was no option for negotiation. It was explicitly stated.

I applied online and the process took 5 days - interviewed at H&M in April 2013.

Interview Details You can apply online on their website. After applying they call you to schedule an interview. The first interview, I had two upper level supervisors. They asked me a couple of questions like, "have you ever been late" or "what happens when you have nothing to do?". The 2nd interview asked more questions about my previous jobs and what were my greatest strengths and weaknesses.

Interview Question – The most difficult question to answer was "what was your favorite job and why?".   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I tried to negotiate getting paid a little more than 10.50 but the highest they can pay a part time sales advisor is 10.20. They negotiate well but within the guidelines of their corporate guidelines.
