Interview Details Very disorganized and unpleasant experience. Started quite standard with an initial phone screening and a conversation afterward with the hiring manager and the VP. Oddly they indicated to me that there were two other roles that I was being considered for that I did not apply to. By the end of both phone interviews (hiring manager and VP) I was told that they wanted to fly me out. Heard nothing from either or the recruiter for 3 weeks. Then received an email message from the recruiter that I was no longer in consideration but suggested I apply elsewhere. Total waste of time, I do not mind not being chosen but the "cone of silence" treatment for so long is unprofessional.

Strategy Analyst Interview (Neutral Experience)
I applied online and interviewed at Expedia.
Interview Details The HR called me and said my salary expectation is high. So, I said, "Ok, as long as the company provides growth opportunities within the company, I am interested in the position". She told me, "We are not interested in hiring someone that has an eye on the next level"!! This is the first time a HR personnel has told me that looking to grow within the company for the long term is not right!!

Communications Manager Interview (Negative Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online - interviewed at Expedia in April 2014.
Interview Details I was initially contacted by HR for an interview over the phone (no previous contact to arrange a time and a date, but an out-of-the-blue phone call with generic questions about my previous position). Then I was invited for an in-person meeting at their office. When I got there I found out that the lady who was supposed to interview me was off sick, but nobody had informed me! My interview was then rescheduled with the above mentioned lady and two other people. One of them used the STAR technique. He was a bit irritating I have to say, not too sure what he was trying to achieve there. Never heard back from any of them again, got no feedback whatsoever. Politeness, communication, organization and kindness def not their best qualities!
Interview Question – it was a series of questions like "what would you do if your colleague didn't want to do his job/give you the info you need/support" View Answer
Software Development Engineer Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at Expedia in May 2014.
Interview Details Applied online through their website ,Got call from the recruiter and arranged the phone screening. The questions were standard coding and database questions and hiring manager set me up for onsite interview. Had 5 1:1 interviews and it was of average difficulty with no breaks inbetween. Was asked to code on board even during lunch interview. Most of the interviewers started working on their laptop when I was writing code on board.
Interview Question – 1. Reverse a string.
2. Remove duplicates in a string.
3. Lots of queries involving JOINs.
4. Given 2 integer arrays, find common elements. Answer Question
Software Development Engineer I Interview (Positive Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied online and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Expedia in May 2014.
Interview Details The hiring process was very simple and straight forward. I had a phone screen interview and then called onsite for four one-one interview. The interviews was very simple. all related to Java and web concepts and few white board questions. I had interviewed with 4 different teams.
One of the interviewer was very friendly, he made sure that I was comfortable and if I had to take a break. On the other side.
one other interviewer was asking me strange questions, I am not sure if he was prepared with all the questions. While I was answering the questions,he was doing some work on his laptop(I am sure not related to the interview). His questions were unconventional and he was himself was not sure what he wants to ask.
The other two interviews were simple and nothing out of the box questions were asked.

Properties Assistance Coordinator Interview (Negative Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Expedia.
Interview Details I received a call from a recruiter to settle a phone interview. A week later I got a phone interview with the person who was supposed to be my supervisor in case I will succeed te process. The person on the phone asked me for an overview of my CV from the beginning. After she explain me the position and started to ask me more concrete questions about my CS experience, like examples of difficult situations with customers and how I deal with them. My 3 strengths, my 3 weaknesses...Very hand book interview, but like I had experience in the field it was more extended to my personal experiences. Interview took one hour. The person on the phone told me I will be contacted within 10 days max. regarding my interview.
After this I NEVER GET A FEEDBACK. I contact the recruiter 2 times (by email) to ask him about my application, he never replied. I find this extremely UNPROFESSIONAL...

Associate Marketing Manager Interview (Negative Experience)

Interview Details I will talk about the phone interview only here, not the physical one (which I did have).
Honestly, this was a joke. The HR Manager failed to call me back after I left one or two messages. When he eventually did, that part was fine. But then, several days later, he called again saying that the hiring manager had extra questions needed to be answered (guys, you could be a bit more organised than this... can't you list all of the questions once?). And he starts asking me the same questions than the first time! When I replied "I have answered these already" he mumbled "Oh I'm sorry but my computer crashed with all the information". Which meant to me: a/ their IT equipment suck, and it doesn't sound good; or b/ he's B.S-ing me. It was the 2nd option. I know it because I spoke about this interview to someone who had had a phone interview too with that same HR Manager, and exactly the same story happened to her. How can you trust a company when they behave like this? (Very) bad first impression... I don't even want to book any trip with them now. Remember, HR people: your first contact to a candidate is *also* the image you give to a potential customer, who will spend money on your products / services. Or not.

Technical Product Manager Interview (Negative Experience; Average Interview)
I applied in-person and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Expedia.
Interview Details Met an HR representative at a hiring fair and talked them through my qualifications and interests. Based on our conversation they said they would pass along my information to a hiring manager they had in mind. The hiring manager emailed me to setup a time for us to talk about my qualifications. The phone interview went very well and Expedia was impressed with my experience. Based on the phone interview they scheduled an in-person interview. Interviewed with 4 people, each for 1 hour. The interviews were challenging and at the same time fun. Interviewers were professional, had great questions, and provided exciting conversations. In fact, my interview actually went long because of the great conversations we had.
The hiring manager told me that she would contact me within 2 weeks about a decision. A few days later I was asked to provide my references. After notifying my references that they would be called soon I sent along their information. Expedia contact 2 out of 4 of the references and the references told me the conversations went well. Then.... complete radio silence from Expedia. No phone call, or email.
Giving it over a week I contacted the HR person and they never responded to 2 emails and a phone call. Contacted the hiring manager and she responded that she would have someone contact me. The person who contacted me was another hiring manager who wanted to do a phone screen for a position he was hiring for. I agreed and that phone screen went poorly due to the new manager asking vague, open ended questions and expecting a specific answer.
Still almost a month later I have not heard a final decision on the first interview. This experience has left me with a very negative perception of Expedia employees and the companies ethics at large. I invested considerable time into the process, friends of mine took time out of their day to talk with Expedia, and I even followed up with all the parties involved. They could not offer the professional courtesy of just a decline or accept email. Based on this experience I would not recommend investing your time into applying for Expedia as they do not respect applicants or the time commitment they require of people. Speaks volumes of how you would be treated if employed there.
Expedia... you need to teach your managers how to be professional.

Commission Reporting Analyst Position Interview (Negative Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Expedia in May 2014.
Interview Details I had an email exchange with the Talent Advisor. She asked me to complete a CV screening document which included competency based questions as I was unable to have a phone interview during the day.
Some question examples:
Tell me about a time you worked in an environment with strict processes and guidelines?
How do you look for ways to improve yourself and the processes with which you work?
How do you deal with ambiguity?
How comfortable are you working on many data driven projects at the same time (spanning multiple teams)? Please provide some examples for all questions.
I received an email the next day advising that I've passed the screening stage and that a phone interview has been scheduled with the Hiring Manager at 6.30pm as she was located in Bellevue, USA. It took 45mins and it was a mix of general and competency based questions. I then had to attend 2 face to face interviews at their Angel office in London. Again, the interviewers asked mainly competency based questions. Nothing too complicated.
Having passed 3 rounds of interviews I had 2 more phone interviews with the Hiring Manager and another Analyst and the Director all from Bellevue, USA. Interviews took 30mins each, more competency based questions with a twist of a last question being aptitude one. Given it was the last interview and 8pm London time, I didn't expect this type of question to be the last one. Needless to say, I didn't answer the broken bridge question as it was completely irrelevant in my opinion, having passed all the other interviews without such questions.
The last interview was the most difficult one with a screw up question at the very end of the interview. I felt it was rather mean, as they could have said thank you, but thank you no earlier in the interview process. I didn't have relevant travel experience, thus I didn't think they would like to proceed further after the 1st or 2nd interview.
There is a much more simple way of screening potential candidates. One interviewer mentioned that he also could not understand the 6 rounds of interviewing. He then corrected his statement adding that Expedia hires only the best fit for the role.
Don't waist your time if you don't think the person isn't a good fit for the role. You can screw up anybody in the interview process even the VP if you really wanted!!!!
Interview Question – What business goals would you set up for the year for this role?
If money and resources where abundant, what one thing would you change about the process you are most familiar with from your last/ current role? And why?
There's a broken bridge and only 2 people can cross it at any given time. There are 4 people in total and they all travel at different speeds. It's dark at night, and there's 1 flash light which lasts 10mins. How would you make sure all people crossed the bridge safely without leaving anyone behind? Answer Question
Junior Data Scientist Interview (Neutral Experience; Easy Interview)

Interview Details Gave the first round of interview few days back, general HR stuff...
Have not heard back yet. Was told that I would be informed about the outcome in the following week. Have written to the recruiter seeking the results .. no luck hearing back yet
